Monday contest: Signed books from T.C. Boyle!

T.C. Boyle is currently on tour for the paperback release of When the Killing’s Done, his 2011 novel about environmentalists battling over the invasive species inhabiting the Channel Islands.

Boyle happens to be one of my favorite authors (like many readers, I was hooked by The Women), so I was thrilled to interview him when he swung by the Nashville Public Library. (Also, I had no idea that he is practically seven feet tall.)

As much as it was fun to chat about When the Killing’s Done, Boyle seemed very excited to discuss his next book, San Miguel, as you can see in our video interview:

After the interview, Boyle signed five paperback copies of When the Killing’s Done. Read on to find out how you can win a copy.

TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the name of an author you’d love to talk to in person.

CONTEST DETAILS: Five winners will be chosen by random.org from among entries received by 5 pm CST on Friday, April 6. The winners will each receive a signed paperback of When the Killing’s Done. Prize must be shipped to a North American address. Good luck!

ETA: Congratulations to our winners, Rebecca, Laurie, Jason, Becky and Jonathan! They would love to talk to a wide range of authors: Sara Gruen, Charles Baxter, John Grisham, Ann Patchett and James Patterson.

Thank you to all who entered! Contest is now closed.

Just finished reading Once Upon A River, by Bonnie Jo Campbell and would be interested in finding out how she knows sooooooooo much about the setting she used in her book. Also, one of the most poignant death ‘scene’ I have ever read takes place with a character called Smokey. It deeply touched my heart.

  42. Alexis says:

I’d love to talk with Alice Hoffman. I recently read the Dove Keepers (and almost every other book she’s written) and I can’t praise it enough. Hopefully turning on my book club to her with this month’s pick of The Red Garden.

  43. Joyce Savale says:

I agree with Alexis. Alice Hoffman would be very interesting to speak with. I would like to know how she became interested in the idea of magical thinking and then put it into her writing in such an appealing way.
So many of her books are thought provoking; I am currently reading “The Dovekeepers”, and cannot put it down. It is a very different direction for Ms Hoffman, and yet the magic is still there.

I would love to receive the signed copy of T. C. Boyle’s new book. I am a great fan. Especially loved “The Tortilla Curtain” and “A Friend of the
    Earth.”

  44. Carol Foisset says:

Ann Patchett – I think that it would be like sitting down with an old friend. Her book “Truth and Beauty” was such a beautiful tribute and a powerful exploration of loss. Plus she is an independent bookstore owner!

I would like to sit down and talk with Anne Perry. I have read every book she has written and am amazed at her ability to make the era seem familiar to me.

  46. rhonda says:

    Ann Pratchett!!

  47. Teresa says:

Hmmm…so many to choose from. I’ll go with top three: I’d love to chat with T.C. Boyle (of course!), John Irving and Pat Conroy.

  48. Oddly enough, I find that I’d rather be stuck in a room with a musician that I love rather than an author. But given the constraints of this contest, I’d have to go with Nick Hornby because we could talk about books AND music!

  49. Rich Renner says:

Always wanted to chat with Tom Standage about The Turk, his history of the chess-playing mechanical man. I tried to talk to Mr. Boyle at a book signing once, but for some reason we just stared at each other.

I would like to be able to talk to Barbara Delinsky. She edited a great book of encouragement for women diagnosed with breast cancer. All the comments and anecdotes in it were from readers, friends and friends of friends. I do enjoy her fiction too. But the book about breast cancer really touched my heart as a survivor.
