Monday contest: Win the Child 44 trilogy!

Tom Rob Smith’s Agent 6—the finale in the Child 44 trilogy—came out last week, and we’re pretty excited about it. (You might remember the “Trailer Tuesday” post from January 3.) The books are about Leo Demidov, a former Soviet secret police agent.

This week, you can enter to win all THREE books in the trilogy!

This is one of those thriller series that has a fast and exciting pace; a main character with whom you’ll build an emotional attachment; and an intriguing setting. It’s not to be missed.

In an interview with Smith about Child 44, BookPage contributor Jay MacDonald called the novel a “grisly and gripping redemption tale.” (The thriller takes place in the Soviet Union in 1953 and was also long-listed for the Booker.) In a review of the second book, The Secret Speech, novelist Tasha Alexander praised the “vibrant descriptions of the post-Stalin Soviet Union” and the “breakneck pace” of the story.

In the January issue of BookPage, Smith himself wrote an essay about the experience of ending his trilogy. You can read that here—as well as a review of Agent 6.

Want the books for yourself? Here’s how you can win them:

TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the name of your favorite series protagonist (from Miss Marple to Alex Cross to Jane Rizzoli to Harry Hole or Harry Bosch).

CONTEST DETAILS: One winner will be chosen by random.org from among entries received by 5 pm CST on Friday, January 13. The winner will receive the Child 44 trilogy, including: Child 44, The Secret Speech and Agent 6.

ETA: Congratulations to our winner, Rhonda! Her favorite series protagonist is Harry Bosch.

Thank you to all who entered! Contest is now closed.

  22. Jonathan says:

    Alex Cross

  23. Mike says:

Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot have always been favorites of mine. More recently, Harry Potter springs to mind; though the term is overused, it’s fun to watch a protagonist “come of age” throughout a series of novels, as opposed to being a fully realized character right from the start.

Then there’s the unconventional picks, such as Lestat, Patrick Bateman, and Tom Ripley.

  24. It’s a toss-up between Stephanie Plum and Kinsey Millhone. Both are strong female protagonists who are a little offbeat.

  25. Alberta Kliem says:

Miss Marple is my favorite-mystery, humor and not a lot of gore

  26. Jenny says:

There are so many it is hard to choose, but since I am currently reading Nemesis, I would have to say Harry Hole right now is my favourite.

  27. Mary Beth Pistulka says:

I still can’t get past the Steig Larson Trilogy. My fave.

I’ve always been a fan of Carlotta Carlyle. Thank you Linda Barnes!

I love Elizabeth George’s Havers and Lynley.

  30. Joan says:

I love many detectives / PIs / etc. but my hands down favorite is Harry Bosch!

Lucas Davenport from John Sanford’s Prey series always has me tearing through his latest.

  32. Jessica says:

I love the Bernie Gunther series by Philip Kerr

  33. Connie says:

Well..my choices are a little different. I would go with Anita Blake from the Laurell K.Hamilton books and James Bond from the Ian Fleming books. They stay true to character and they both are always ready for a challenge.

The early Special Agent Pendergast in the Preston/Childs series.

  41. Michael Gonzales says:

I have many favorites, some of which have already been mentioned. Two that I have not seen mentioned are Mitch Rapp created by Vince Flynn and John Russell created by David Downing.

I like the Dream Series, by Nora Roberts

  44. Little Red says:

I think I will be the 44th respondent to the 44 series contest! W00T, that would be cool. Anyway, there are so many favorites in my lifetime love of literature. I’m pretty sure Harold (of the Purple Crayon) and Benjamin Bunny were among the first and then I advanced on to Nancy Drew, and Ramona in grade school. From there it only grew to include the iconic Hercule Poirot, Brother Cadfael, Roland and Sneaky Pie Brown. More recently, the list has included Precious Ramotswe and, unashamedly, Bella & Edward. If you ask me again in a few years, I’m certain there will be an even longer list.

  45. John says:

Jack Reacher is a man among men!

  46. Emily Clever says:

    Does Harry Potter count?

  47. Bess says:

    Love Harry Hole

  48. Metka says:

    Lisbeth Salander

That would be Selene of The Underworld series. She’s a tough, sexy vampire with an amazing wardrobe and cool guns. (Sorry, Edward Cullen: she’s also in love with a werewolf!)

    Thanks,
