Four Tips for Promoting Your E-book

A post from the Author Enablers
With more than 25 years of experience, Kathi Kamen Goldmark and Sam Barry have the inside scoop on writing and publishing. Together, they are the authors of Write That Book Already!: The Tough Love You Need to Get Published Now.  Email them your questions (along with your name and hometown) about writing and publishing, and don’t miss their column on BookPage.com.

Aspiring authors often ask us how they can promote their e-books. While we don’t have a magic formula, here are a few suggestions for “catching a wave” as you surf the Internet of book publishing.

  1. Pay per click advertising on sites such as Facebook, Google, etc. is one of the quickest ways to drive traffic to your e-book. This means investing some money in advertising, but you can limit the amount, and it is probably the most effective technique to generate interest from people who don’t already know about you and your book.
  2. Make a fun, informative video trailer: Sam did this one for How to Play the Harmonica: and Other Life Lessons. Yours can be as simple or as elaborate as budget allows.
  3. We assume you have a website, and we hope you are doing some interesting blogging. But are you making connections with other bloggers by linking to their sites and blogs? Arrange to make guest appearances on other blogs.
  4. Cross-promote by finding other e-book authors who write in your genre. You can join forces to create a press-release-style “round-up” of several books; then share e-mail lists and send it to everyone’s contacts.
