This week’s contest is a book giveaway that’ll send a cool shiver down your spine: Lisa Unger’s Darkness, My Old Friend (Crown). Her sixth novel, which goes on sale August 9, is a sequel of sorts to her last bestseller, Fragile, and also set in the sleepy town of The Hollows.
But this is not your normal small town. “It has wants and needs; it has an agenda. It’s not malicious precisely. Not exactly. I’m not quite sure what The Hollows is up to, to be honest,” Unger tells us in a behind-the-book essay. She also shares the story from her own past that has kept her fascinated with the ordinariness of violent events for the past 25 years.
For more on the inspiration for Darkness, My Old Friend—and the two memorable characters it follows—read the essay. Then come back and leave a comment telling us about an event—personal or public—in your own past that could inspire a novel to be entered to win a copy of your own.
TO ENTER: Leave a comment on this post telling us about a personal or public event you remember that could inspire a suspense novel.
CONTEST DETAILS: One winner will be chosen by random.org from among entries received by 6 pm CST on August 12. The winner will receive one copy of Darkness, My Old Friend. Prize must be shipped to a North American address.
ETA: Congratulations to our winner, Christine A.! She shared a disturbing story about how a friend slipped her something one night. Would make one hell of a thriller!
Thanks to all who entered! The contest is now closed.
