Our crystal ball predicts your next great read

Exciting news! We have a new column in the August issue of BookPage, and it’s thanks to our faithful blog readers.

Because I got such an overwhelming number of responses to June’s book fortune feature, we decided to start including book fortunes in the BookPage print edition. I’ll regularly post book fortunes on The Book Case, too.

If you missed the book fortunes promo in June, here’s all the info you need:

Some people might want a crystal ball to look up winning lottery numbers or connect with a soulmate, but we know our readers are more interested in finding an excellent book to read. From now on, consider BookPage your personal fortune teller. You tell us your favorite authors and books, and we’ll predict your next great read—specifically tailored to your taste. For a chance at your own book fortune, send me an email at bookfortunes (at) bookpage (dot) com with your name, hometown and your favorite genre(s), author(s) and book(s).

Book Fortunes took over the space formerly occupied by Buzz Girl, our anonymous column about news on “tomorrow’s bestsellers.” Don’t worry, though; we’ll keep you updated on the latest book news and commentary right here on the blog.

My favorite authors include Sydney Bauer, Stieg Larrson, Allison Brennan, James Patterson, John Grisham, Mary Higgins Clark. Definitely too many to list. In other words I enjoy good mysteries, books about serial murderers and good fiction like The Kite Runner, The Help, and Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet.

  2. Laurie Blum says:

I love fictional history set around the time of WWII… I’m an army brat born in 1943, raised on a Texas base where my father served as Captain in the Medics.

  3. Dianne says:

I like historical fiction, including historical mysteries, also lighthearted mysteries. Some of my favorite authors: Anne Perry, M.C. Beaton, Rita Mae Brown. I also like good-quality fiction. One of my favorite recently read books: The Help.

  4. I need really good writing and a good story. For example, “The Invisible Bridge,” “Let The Great World Spin,” “The Glass Room,” and so on. I just read “The Great Man” and even though it won the Pen Faulkner award it didn’t do a thing for me!!!

    • Roberta Levett says:

I agree, the best book I read last year was “The Invisible Bridge”, with “The Glass Room” running a close second. Also loved “The Passage”.

  5. Maura T Callahan says:

If you like really absorbing books with great writing try Joe Coomer, a Texan writer transplanted to New England. I discovered Joe Coomer in the 90′s with his non-fiction book “Dreamhouse: On Building a House by a Pond” and then started with his first novels “Kentucky Love” and “A Flatland Fable” and worked my way through his list to “The Loop” and one of my all-time favorites “Pocketful of Names.” Check him out. You will be as entranced as I was.
