It’s not even out yet (in fact it has another month), and already it has topped Amazon’s bestseller list.
Go the F*** to Sleep (Akashic Books) by Adam Mansbach and illustrated by Ricardo Cortés charmingly mixes sing-song sweet rhyme with what parents might really be thinking.
Two things about this book interest me. First, I love the idea of a parody children’s book (please note: it is NOT for children!). But second, its huge surge in popularity is the result of a pirated PDF, and after a lap around the internet, the 32-page picture book was a hit — and not just among exasperated parents.
As much as dropping the F-bomb sparks conversation, I’m fascinated by piracy’s role in this book’s success. Piracy is so often considered a major enemy of published books, but not this time.
What’s your take on the pirated PDF?
