I’ll be honest with you. I never thought I liked Westerns . . . until I became obsessed with Charles Portis and True Grit. (See here and here.)
So I was especially excited when I read the opening lines of Jillian Quint’s review of The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt:
Readers of The Sisters Brothers will hardly be surprised to learn that it has been optioned for a film. After all, the fast-paced, gun-slinging Western is cinematic in scope, while its terse and comically stilted dialogue is reminiscent of recent film homages like No Country for Old Men and True Grit.
Quint tempts us more by describing the novel as “visceral,” “surprising” and “touching.” Get more of a feel for The Sisters Brothers in this wacky, colorful trailer from Ecco:
What do you think—does the trailer make you want to read the book? (It’s on sale now.)
Have you seen any good book trailers lately?

Yes, I like Charles Portis, Julia Glass, though not teen novels. May have years ago. What I like now are character driven stories, where reading is like watching a movie of someone you know and by the end care deeply about. Not many can show that kind of story, or try to anymore.
Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
