Trailer Tuesday: Henning Mankell’s ‘The Troubled Man’

Not only was Henning Mankell’s The Troubled Man a featured Book of the Day last week—it is also the Top Pick for mystery and suspense for the month of April!

This novel is the final installment of Mankell’s Kurt Wallander series, and Whodunit columnist Bruce Tierney says it will one day “be required reading in mystery writing classes, a genre novel that indisputably transcends the genre.” That alone made me want to mark this one for my TBR.

I haven’t read Mankell yet but I plan to. This year, I am loving Jo Nesbo. There is just something about Scandinavian crime fiction that I don’t get in American crime fiction. The sensibilty is different and as another blogger put it, Scandinavian writers don’t write for the ADD set like American writers do.

One I work my way through Nesbo, I plan to pick up Mankell.

  2. Terri M says:

must i read all the books in the series to get to this one?

    • Hi Terri,
I haven’t read this particular series, but in my experience with long-running thriller series, you can usually jump right in. Plot-wise, you won’t be lost if you skip the books that come first. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? Happy reading!

  3. REMEMBER TO TAKE A LOOK AT MY TWO BOOKS. LIFE LOVE AND DEATH IS ABOUT MY MOTHER’S VERY BAD LIFE ,FROM THE DAY SHE WAS BORN TIL THE DAY SHE DIED. HER MOM DIED AT THE AGE OF 33, LEAVING FRAN,MY MOTHER 10 YEARS OLD AND A BROTHER NOT YET 7 YEARS OLD, AND A 12 YEAR OLD BROTHER TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES. BACK THEN A 12 YEAR OLD HAD TO WORK ANYWAY. FRAN HAD TO LEARN TO COOK AND CLEAN WHILE HER MOTHER WAS SO SICK. THE STEPFATHER PUT THEM OUT THE DAY AFTER VENNIE’S[ THEIR MOMS FURNAL. FRAN HAD TO GO FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE BEGGING PEOPLE TO LET HER WORK OR DO WHATEVER SHE COULD , FOR A PLACE FOR HER AND LAWSON, HER LITTLE BROTHER TO SLEEP. SHE WOULD ALWAYS MAKE IT CLEAR THAT SHE WOULDN’T GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT HER BROTHER. THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK. FRAN PUT ALL HER FAITH AND TRUST IN GOD, AND SHE ALWAYS SAID GOD WAS HER STENGTH, AND WHAT HELPED HER THROUGH ALL THE BAD THINGS SHE HAD TO ENDURE.
