In today’s edition of Reading Corner, we asked you: What’s your favorite series for kids and teens?
The e-newsletter highlights Brandon’s Mull’s A World Without Heroes, book one in the new Beyonders series. Writing about this novel made me reminisce about my own favorite series. On this very blog, I’ve gushed about:
(Can you tell I grew up in the ’90s?)
What are your favorite series? Let us know in the comments!

My seven year old loves the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne. They weren’t around when I was a kid, but I’m pretty sure I would have loved them, too. The kids in the books have some amazing adventures through history.
The Space Ship Under the Apple Tree by Louis Slobodkin. I think there were probably 5 titles in this series. I discovered them when I was 9 years old and because no other kids my age seemed interested, I felt they were mine and mine alone. I had a habit of rereading my favorite books when I was that age (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory 23 times!!), and I’m sure I had parts of this first installment memorized.
i loved the spiderwick chronicles by diterlizzi and black and the sisters grimm series by michael buckley.
Susan Cooper’s 5- book series The Dark is Rising was my favorite growing up also Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander. I’ve read and re-read them all countless times and they never disappoint me!
Oh, Nancy Drew. Hands down. I think I read them all (and wish I still had them!). She and her little roadster were a big part of my dream world.
Nancy Drew was my absolute favorite growing up. My friend and I read every single one and I still have a lot of the old ones we collected (from the 1930′s and 40′s). Another favorite series was Marguerite Henry’s Misty books. With my kids it was Harry Potter and Magic Treehouse. I once bought my youngest a Magic Tree House book in Lexington and he had FINISHED it before we got home (in about an hour!) LOL I am glad I raised voracious readers!!
When I was a kid, I loved Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden, but I’d have to say my favorite all-time series (then and now) were The Chronicles of Narnia and A Wrinkle in Time.
Of more modern series, my favorite is the Pendragon series by DJ MacHale. Both my teen son and I LOVED every minute of the 10-book series:
