Pattinson to star in DeLillo adaptation

Book-based films like The King’s Speech, Winter’s Bone and True Grit are highlights of this year’s Oscar nominee list. Perhaps next year will see a nomination for Cosmopolis, the first Don DeLillo novel to make it to the big screen.

Canadian director David Cronenberg (A History of Violence) has cast Robert Pattinson (Water for Elephants, Twilight) as billionaire Eric Packer, who does business from the backseat of his limo as he travels down 47th Street in New York City.

In the words of our Well Read columnist,  ”The slightly over-the-top world that DeLillo creates in Cosmopolis is just the other side of reality, but nonetheless, it offers a disturbing mirror image of contemporary life.”
