A deal was announced earlier this week for a reprint of a 1999 novel from Jaimy Gordon, the dark horse winner of last year’s National Book Award. Bogeywoman will be published by Vintage and is described as a story of “coming out and coming of age when, after being institutionalized, a young girl falls in love with an older, exotic psychiatrist.”
Lord of Misrule has drawn mostly positive reviews, praising Gordon’s evocative writing and idiosyncratic characters, though mentions of its lack of plot and use of insider horse racing terms have kept me from picking it up so far. Bogeywoman sounds a bit more accessible (the reviews cited on the Amazon page call it “extraordinary” and compare it to Rubyfruit Jungle). Will you read it? Have you read Lord of Misrule?
