Last year, we blogged about Massachusetts-based Madras Press, a nonprofit who publishes short stories by well-known authors for just $6 each, with the proceeds going to the charity of the author’s choice.
Their second series of books is now available, featuring stories by Ben Marcus, Donald Barthelme, Andrew Kaufman and Ken Kalfus—and you can win all four here today. Just leave a comment letting us know which author you’d like to see write a short story for Madras Press. We’ll pick a winner from the comments left by 5 pm CST on Friday, December 31.

Stephen King – to write a short horror story or a short mystery.

Would be great to start new year off with a great book like thus
Wally Lamb
I second Wally Lamb and Maeve Binchy. I’d also add Joshilyn Jackson.
I guess I’m a copycat, but I agree with Cyndee. Wally Lamb would write a great short story. Jennifer Egan would be good too. The chapters in “Return of the Goon Squad were short stories that all worked together.
I wish Alexander Pushkin was still alive – “The Captain’s Daughter” is one of my all time favorite stories!

Colm Toiban or Wells Tower
I would love to see a short story by Janet Evanovich.
I’m with Dennis on this: Amanda Eyre Ward is a fantastic short fiction writer. Other than that, I’d vote for the underappreciated Lewis Nordan. Funny, funny guy.
I’d love to see something by Abraham Verghese because I love both his fiction and nonfiction, and would like to see what he could do with a short story.
Jennifer Weiner – her set of short stories “The Guy Not Taken” were very good.
A short story by Ken Follet
Mark Helprin if he could keep the word count down to short-story length – Winter’s Tale is one of my all-time favorite books but it is looooooong
A short story from Lisa Lutz would be great. Her Spellman series was crazy funny.
I love the short stories of Stephen King.
I would like to read more of Andrew Kaufman
Shirley Rousseau Murphy
Suzanne Collins or Maggie Stiefvater. A YA author would rock!
I would like to see Dean Koontz write a story for them.
A short story by Jacqueline Winspear.
Debbie Macomber and Anne Perry would be good to add to the mix.
I would love to see a story by Ray Bradbury, the master of the short story.
Patricia McKillip, a lyrical writer who could use exposure beyond the fantasy genre
Robyn Carr I love her Virgin River stories.
Love to see Phillipa Gregory write some short stories
My suggestion is a short story by Louise Erdrich.
Love short stories
Love short stories!
Jeffrey Archer
His short story collection was wonderful: “…And Thereby Hangs a Tale”
Hi! I think Fannie Flagg or Jennifer Crusie would be a great choice for a short story.
Pat Conroy
How about ken Follett, could it be done!
William Goldman – let’s get the long-promised follow-up to The Princess Bride happening!
Diana Gabaldon. And of course it would have to have Jaime in it.
How about Richard Paul Evans who wrote “The Christmas box”, etc. I love his stories. I bet he could do a great short doing and wring a cry out of all of us.
Maeve Binchy is my choice.
Oh, hard, hard choice. Any of these: Diana Gabaldon, Stephen King, Anne McCaffrey (a Pern short story, of course), Ray Bradbury or China Mieville…
George R.R. Martin
I would like to see S J Bolton write a short story.
Congrats, Karen, you’re the winner! I’ll be in touch to get your address.
How about Mitch Albom?
Aubrey Mace. She’s a new author with just three books, but I really love her writing style.
I think a short story by Nora Ephron would be most interesting!
A short story by Anthony Bourdain gets my attention.
A short story by Sandra Brown would be read by me and thousands of other readers!
A short story by Nicholas Sparks would be great!
I figure Dennis Lehane could write a good short story.
I would like for Pat Conroy to write a story set in the South for Madras Press.
I think Rusty Whitener would be a great short story writer, also Pat Conroy is a great author(good idea Annie)My wife and I are crazy about his books/movies,Happy New Year
I’d love to see Joe Meno in a Madras Press edition
I hate to repeat though I agree with Jenny Spadafora about Joe Meno. Also, Scott Heim and/or Eileen Myles would be good.
