She’s just finishing up filming on One for the Money, but a New York Times profile hints that Katherine Heigl has a new literary adaptation in the works: Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander. Randall Wallace (Braveheart) is adapting this time-travel romance for the big screen, and a release date of 2012 is projected.
Evanovich fans (well, at least the ones who comment on our site) aren’t big on the idea of Heigl as Stephanie Plum—will Gabaldon readers embrace the actress? T.Y. at the Lit Connection, who’s a big Outlander saga fan, is an advocate for an unknown actress, and a brief scan of some fan sites turned up names like Kate Beckinsale and Kate Winslet. (At least Heigl’s in the right first-name neighborhood.)
Any opinions on this casting?

No, no, no. I’m assuming that she is going to be Claire. I cannot picture her in this role at all. I’d have to agree that I’d rather see an unknown actress who better fits the descriptions than Heigl.
Katherine Heigl is irritating and a bad actress. Never read this series, but I don’t think she’s right for any part!
What!?! Wrong nationality, wrong accenty, wrong age, wrong height, wrong, wrong, wrong. BIG mistake. The producer and director should take a page from the Harry Potter series, and find some talented UK unknowns to fill these extremely beloved roles. What are they thinking!?! All this would have taken was some focus groups conducted amoungst Diana Gabaldon’s fans to be able to quickly figure out this was a very foolish move. The director & producer have now systematically alienated about 70% of Diana’s fan base. The key folks responsible for any positive word of mouth advertising they would have garnered, had they correctly cast this role. Truly amazingly bad casting.
I like Katherine Haeigl but NO to being Claire!!! She absolutely does not fit ANY image of Claire that most of us have. I agree with the above comments . Have the producers, directors ..ANYONE related to the screen version read any of the books? You need someone who can pull off the maturity, wit, grace, etc. that Claire demonstrated as the character in this series. I would only see Katherine Heigl’s face ( lovely as it is) in yet another role. How many series can an actress do well when both that are mentioned have many books in them? Overexposed!! There has to be a fine unknown ( or not so well known) actress that can fill this role! GOOD GRIEF!! I have wondered for so long why this
series has not been on big screen or small screen as a series, now this fiasco? The producers , casting crew have missed the mark on this one! DONT DISAPPOINT THE FANS !!
She is SO very wrong for this part, please do not do this. If you must use a known actress I can see Rachel Weisz or someone like her, but would much rather see an unknown who actually fits the description for both Claire and Jamie.
I agree. NO Katherine Heigl
she will ruin it for those who have not read the series
I just swore loudly while reading this so I’d have to say a big NO over here.
As much as the LOVE the Outlander series I don’t think I would be able to see the movie if Katherine Heigl is cast as Claire. Quite simply it would ruin the image of the characters in my minds eye. As much as I would enjoy a movie of Outlander I could not do it if it would detract from the characters so severely.
A big no. I agree that it should be an unknown. Next they’ll want Brad Pitt as Jamie!!!
Katherine Heigl should just go away. I don’t care to watch her at all. Period.
Hey, I’ve already read this one. see sites with bing But well, thank you for sharing. i have bookmarked your site.
Katherine Heigl is my favorite actress, i love her eyes and i love her smile ::
and have you ever seen her really act? she can’t
No, no, no! Another “what were they thinking?” moment. Katherine Heigl usually plays a shrill career woman. It seems to be the only thing she can do. To have her play Claire would just be all wrong and would wreck my image of the character, just as Kim says. Kate Winslet would be a good choice if they must go with a known actor.
the blonde hair and eyes of Katherine Heigl is very attractive, she is very beautiful too “,-
but not as claire
No no, God please no!!!!!
Oh no! I can’t see it. She is so wrong for the part, any part in the Outlander series. That would be a tragedy….
I don’t see her as Claire either. Too bad Maggie Smith is not young enough. Or I’d like to see someone like Susan Sarandon or Glenn Close. If you can find an unknown with the right accent and the right strength of character, I’d be happy to see that. I’ve wanted to see the Outlander series put to movie (although nothing will match the books in content) and I really hope you don’t go with Heigl.
I am a HUGE Outlander fan as well as Stephanie Plum fan. I cannot fathom Heigl as EITHER heroine. One for the money comes our this June and I don’t want to see it. I think that no matter who plays Claire, she will be wrong. I want to keep Claire, Jaime and the gang in my head, unchanged. I have never had a book I love be adapted into a film that I love. Look at how they butchered “Twilight” in the film. PLEASE DON’T BUTCHER JAMIE AND CLAIRE!
NooooooOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
No way!! Totally wrong for the part. I sincerely hope that Diana Gabaldon herself is picking out the actors for this movie and gets who she pictures. I must say that KH is not at all what it described in the books.
This is the best weblog for anyone who needs to search out out about this topic. You notice so much its virtually laborious to argue with you (not that I truly would want…HaHa). You positively put a brand new spin on a subject thats been written about for years. Great stuff, simply nice!
I?¯d been considering this info. I’m just publishing a paper for school and I hope you don’t thoughts if I use a lot of the information in right here. I am going to place your weblog as my source. Thank you
