Happy Fourth of July weekend! Anyone going on a trip?
BookPage is closed on Monday, and I’m heading off for a long weekend at the lovely Greers Ferry Lake in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Where I’m going there’s no internet, spotty cell service and lots of La-Z-Boys and lounge chairs. You can bet I’ll be reading for about 72 hours straight, perhaps occasionally surfacing for a margarita.
Here’s what I’m packing:
What are you reading over the weekend?

Call me crazy, but Puerto Rico screamed “Spanish Lit” to me, so I’m using this trip as my excuse to finally read Love in the Time of Cholera. And since I’m taking my Sony e-reader, I’ve packed it up with tons of other books… including the rest of Laurie R King’s Mary Russell series, which I’ve lately become addicted to!
I’ve been away from home all summer and have gotten lots of reading done with more yet to do. This is my second summer reading mostly classics that I never got to before. I just finished “Madame Bovary” and am no reading “My Name is Mary Sutter” (to break up the classics a bit.) On my list coming up is “Crime & Punishment” followed by another classic yet to be determined. I have a Kindle with lots of things to choose from!
Wow — you will be in my “neck of the woods!” Have fun at Greers Ferry!
Our family isn’t going anywhere — but both my husband and I have the long weekend OFF! Woot woot!
I plan to read The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott — blog buzz has been positive.
It’s The Passage for me. It’s long enough that I’ll only have to take one back up book in case I finish it (which makes packing easier), and that will be Life Would Be Perfect If I Lived in That House, which I know nothing about but pre-ordered solely because it has a great title.
Not sure how much time I’ll have for reading this weekend, but I hope to finish Scarlett Thomas’ OUR TRAGIC UNIVERSE.
Have a great trip!!
My weekend may be a tad busier than yours but I do hope to get some reading time in. I am reading Homecoming for Book Club and will be cracking open The Inn at Lake Devine (just for fun).
Your weblink you delivered to me came thru, thanks, but it appears to not be working, does any person have a backup, or mirror source? Just something that works.
Who wants to hear something refreshing? Making money is not all that easy these days but fortunately, I found a trick. It’s a little known secret that is only shared by some top level Internet gurus. There is nothing illegal or shady about it… it’s just kind of secret. The software needs very little babysitting so it’s basically set it up and forget it. Some people are tempted to exploit this software and use it for unethical web promotion but the owner is asking that everyone who is lucky enough to get it, please try to respect the laws of the internet. It really is as simple as downloading the software and then pushing a button. Basically what it does is bring a stream of free visitors to any website. You might be tempted to try to disect this software in order to ‘see the magic’ but why bother? It’s a pretty amazing piece of software and it just simply… works.
