Filming begins for ‘The Help’

I am sorry to say that none of our commenters correctly guessed the cast of Rebecca Stockett’s The Help in my “Casting Call” blog post from a couple months ago.

Filming starts this summer in Mississippi (mostly in Greenwood, although a few scenes will be shot in Jackson). Emma Stone will play Skeeter and Viola Davis will play Aibileen. Stone was Jules in Superbad, and Davis is best known for her fierce (and Oscar-nominated) role as Donald Miller’s mother in Doubt. According to IMDb, Bryce Dallas Howard—Victoria in this summer’s Eclipse—is rumored to play Hilly.

    I’m not familiar with Emma Stone’s acting (or Bryce Dallas Howards–WHERE AM I? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?)… but looks-wise I pictured someone like Mamie Gummer (Meryl Streep’s daughter) for the Skeeter role. The casting for Minnie and Aibelene feel spot on. Oh, how I hope this movie is great.

    I had a totally different set of actors picked out for this Movie, I am unfamiliar with several of the names listed for the cast. We’ll see how it all plays out, I loved the book. I will be waiting in line to see the Movie.We are thinking of having a release night party. Everyone I know that has read it, loves it.
