Reading for laughs

Maybe you don’t want to devise an elaborate hoax for April Fools’ Day (see: Google as “Topeka”), but there is another way to get in the spirit of practical jokes—reading, of course!

What are your favorite books to read when you need a good laugh? A few humor books we’ve covered recently in BookPage include Cake Wrecks, Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog and When You are Engulfed in Flames. Look out for a hand-written Q&A with Sarah Silverman in our May print edition.

I love Jen Lancaster! Fall on the floor funny!

I like Bill Bryson for laughs even though he is not “fall on the floor” funny. I also get a kick out of Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential. Not a funny book per se but he’s so sarcastic and cool. I always laugh when I read his stuff. I can just hear his voice.

I love this Cake Wrecks book. I also think Mary Roach is hysterical, especially given that her subject matter of choice tends to be something serious like cadavers or the afterlife or sex, but I still find myself with tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.
