Any other readers out there see this as a very strange piece of casting? I never pictured Patricia Cornwell’s famous medical examiner as frumpy, but I didn’t see her looking like Lara Croft either! Especially in the early books (Body of Evidence, All That Remains) Cornwell presents Scarpetta as more of a restrained, professional, all-business type. Hollywood, of course, has its own priorities, and fidelity to books isn’t one of them. We’re especially interested in reports that the first movie won’t be based on one book in the series, but several. Does this mean they’ll simply take the Scarpetta character and come up with a whole new storyline?
Also, we’re wondering who’ll play Scarpetta’s niece, Lucy. And her policeman pal, Marino. Nominations anyone?

I think Angelina Jolie would have suited better as Lucy, actually. Marino can be played by Michael Madsen, Benton Wesley by George Clooney and Scarpetta by someone who looks more like Dana Delany than Jolie. Just an opinion!
Have you considered a career as a casting director? Michael Madsen was born to play Marino! And Clooney would give Benton Wesley that extra wow factor. I can also see Angelina as Lucy, but I doubt she’d ever accept a supporting role.
I’ve been reading Cornwell for the last fifteen years (like everybody else?) so I’ve pictured the characters in my head for so long. Madsen is one of my fav actors, he has been Marino in my head since Reservoir Dogs.
I always pictured Marino as much older, and almost too much out of shape to be a cop.
