Jean-Louis Bloch-Lainé was born in France.
"At a very early age, I discovered photography which I practiced as an amateur. Growing up with the camera led me naturally to the profession.
Tempted by photojournalism and fashion photography, I became acquainted with Wingate Paine in New York in 1962.
I worked with Peter Knapp and the magazine Elle until 1965, and then Pentagram in London until 1970.
Then came the meeting with Jacqueline Saulnier and her precious recipes at Marie-Claire.
Since then, I have dedicated myself to still life photography. I have learned to see perfume, watches and jewelry for advertising agencies. But also and always: cakes, fish, meat and mashed potatoes with olive oil. Over the years, objects and I have developed a fairly good relationship."
Several books have been published on Bloch-Lainé's incredibly rich photographic work. Notably and most recent are La Riviera d'Alain Ducasse, published by Albin Michel, and Secrets Gourmands (Pierre Hermé), published by Larousse. Jean-Louis Bloch-Lainé presently lives and works in Paris, France.
