Describe your book in 50 words or less:
"Lake News" is about a woman who is wrongly accused of being sexually involved with a Cardinal. Thanks to the media onslaught, she loses her job, her privacy, and her freedom of movement. She escapes to her rural New Hampshire hometown, where she must face an estranged mother, a newspaperman with his own ambitions, and the dire need to exact revenge and clear her name.

What's your favorite thing about this book?
Loons. They are beautiful, primitive birds. At midnight, their call sends a chill down my spine.

What's your favorite book? favorite movie?
This month it's "Lake News," since I've been too busy writing to read other books. Same with going to movies.

Which writer's work influenced you least?
Ditto the above.

About what will your next book be?
A vineyard in Rhode Island. A woman who restores old photographs. Fine red wine and sepia-toned scenes. I think.

Your most aggravating habit?
Finishing people's sentences for them.

Which one extremely famous person (besides yourself, of course) would you like to read your book?
Barbra Streisand. I'm in awe of her talent.

If you had a yacht, what would you name it?
Lake News.

What one thing would you like to learn to do?
Quilt.
