Meet The Author: Jill Conner Browne
Title of your new book:
The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love
Describe your book in 50 words or less:
Well, it's no "War and Peace." For one thing, it's not nearly as long. However, I believe that the reading of this book -- and the assiduous application of the principles contained herein -- will not only enhance your popularity, but will greatly improve your disposition. Here's hoping anyway...
What's your favorite thing about this book?
People laugh out loud when they read it. I love that. I'm also fairly carried away with having it published. The Queens love that they are on the cover.
What's your favorite book? Favorite movie?
I really love "The Catcher in the Rye," "Anne of Green Gables" and "BAJA Oklahoma." Other than those, I love books with lots of descriptions of clothing and food. "Harold & Maude" is my movie.
Which writer's work influenced you the least?
Cotton Mather
How does a Sweet Potato Queen spend Valentine's Day?
Eating bon bons & making promises to men. We are also fond of having our every whim catered to -- that takes up a lot of our time.
Your most aggravating habit?
Telling people, "There's another way to look at" whatever is currently making them miserable. It's TRUE, but apparently very annoying.
Which one extremely famous person would you like to read your book?
Sean Connery. And then I would like for him to call me.
If you had a yacht, what would you name it?
My favorite yacht name is already taken -- "Poverty Sucks" -- so I guess I'd just name it "Jill's Big Ass Boat" since that's what my friends would call it anyway.
What one thing would you like to learn to do?
I thought when I mastered the art of making buttermilk biscuits I had pretty much hit the pinnacle, but now I'm thinking if I only knew how to tap dance, I'd be completely satisfied with myself.
Jill Conner Browne writes a weekly column for the Clarion-Ledger. She lives in Jackson, Mississippi.
