The Bubble Wrap Book

REVIEW BY KATHERINE H. WYRICK
I just want to say one word to you . . . Plastics Farrah Fawcett wrapped her naked body in it. You packed your relatives' Christmas presents in it. You might have even turned to it for stress relief. If you haven't guessed by now, we're talking about Bubble Wrap. Long before this book was ever even an idea in someone's head, we were experimenting with this mysterious material. But those were different times -- revolutionary times. We weren't afraid to explore new territory, to share radical ideas. We made coasters, bath mats, we popped 'til our heart's content. Our chef d'oeuvre, however, was a pink Bubble Wrap dress that made us feel like Venus rising from the foam. But those days of Bubble Wrap are gone. Now Joey Green and Tim Nyberg have ushered Bubble Wrap lovers everywhere into the new age of "BW," as insiders call it. That's okay, to be honest, we were running out of ideas anyway. The Spam Guy and The Duct Tape Guy know BW and enlighten us not only on the origins of this ingenious invention but on its various and sundry (and often outrageous) uses. Accidentally invented in 1957 in Hawthorne, New Jersey, the snappy stuff has become part of America's cultural heritage. Sure, New Jersey is the Garden State, but more importantly, and thankfully for us all, it's also the Bubble Wrap State.
