Review by Katherine H. Wyrick
With a revised edition of For the Love of God: Handbook for the Spirit, Richard Carlson (of Don't Sweat the Small Stuff fame) and Benjamin Shield (co-creator of Handbook for the Heart) present a powerful collection of essays by some of our century's greatest teachers.
Asked to write about their personal experiences with the divine, this diverse group -- whose contributors include Thich Nhat Hanh, Harold Kushner, and Jean Shinoda Bolen, among others -- offers profound insights into matters of the spirit. The beauty of the book is this: each author has a unique voice and approach, yet the essence of the teachings is the same.
For the Love God offers something for everyone, no matter what your religious background and practice may be.
Another wonderful feature of note: for those of us in a hurry, the editors have thoughtfully limited each essay to an average of about three pages. Perfect for spiritual seekers on the go.
In her piece "The Long Journey Home," Riane Eisler writes, "What we think of as 'sacred' actually is present in everything we do." Now, that's a bit of widom we could all embrace.
