John Travolta may be out there in filmland bashing heads and causing mayhem, but his new book, "Propeller One-Way Night Coach" shows a distinctly sweet side to the guy.
Travolta is famous for his love of aviation (he named his son Jett, for one thing), and this slim book tells the story of an eight-year-old boy who saves his pennies to go on the trip of a lifetime: a cross-country flight, circa 1962, in a propeller plane. His mother plays chaperone, and what a chaperone she is. An aspiring movie actress with a taste for Newports and a hankering for an upgrade to first class, she takes her son on a multi-stop trip that gives young Jeff a view of a world he had only imagined. Subtitled "A Fable for All Ages," Travolta's book is charming for its simplicity, and its lack of pretense. There's no doubt that Travolta is the author here -- his story has all the detail and whimsy that only an aviation fanatic can bring.
