Most people think LeAnn Rimes, the new country singing sensation, is an overnight wonder. The truth is that she's been working singlemindedly for about ten years -- since she was five years old. That's right, all you math whizzes, she's about to be 15 on August 28. You can bet she never drives her own tour bus!
In "Dream Come True" Jo Sgammato has written a fan's story about this determined and extremely talented young singer who is most often compared with country great Patsy Cline and pop singer Brenda Lee. Sgammato, perhaps unintentionally, also tells the story of parents who devoted themselves to their child's unusual gifts. Always confident, outgoing and blessed with her father's perfect pitch, LeAnn was singing at 18 months. By the age of five, she was winning pageants.
When LeAnn won the 1997 Grammy for best new artist, she began her acceptance with the words "First, of all, I want to thank my mom and dad for everything they've done for me." It must have been a heartwarming moment for Wilbur and Belinda, sort of a "Dream Come True."
