Happy birthday, dear book!

Can you believe it? Goodnight Moon is 50 years old!

For half a century parents and children have been sharing the bedtime ritual in "the great green room" with the red balloon and the cow jumping over the moon . . .
and "good night noises everywhere."

What better way to celebrate a book's birthday than to publish a book about it? As part of the celebration, HarperCollins has recently released a special edition of Goodnight Moon "with a 50th Anniversary Retrospective" by noted authority on children's books, Leonard Marcus. It makes fascinating reading as Marcus reconstructs the collaboration in 1947 between author Margaret Wise Brown and artist Clement Hurd to create this classic bedtime book.

Happy birthday to this beloved book.
