Review by Sukey Howard
David Baldacci is another lawyer-turned-novelist, but he tends towards thrillers with overtones of political intrigue and undertones of corruption, political and otherwise, rather than the more traditional courtroom caper.
Sidney Archer, the besieged heroine of Total Control, Baldacci's newest, is a senior partner in a prestigious Washington law firm. All is going well in her world, until she gets word that her husband has been killed in a plane crash. Then her world seems to go crazy -- the plane, also carrying the head of the Fed, was bombed and the FBI suspects that her husband is responsible for the bombing. Soon, she suspects that her husband is still alive and that he's involved in something extraordinarily dangerous and devious.
From here on, the plot moves at warp speed, chock-a-block with car chases and shootouts, blackmail and betrayal. David Dukes's narration keeps pace with the action.
