Review by Alice Cary
Five Lost Chicks is an eye-catching gift package that includes a board book, small stuffed chicken, and five wooden, numbered blocks. The book is a short, simple story about a mother hen hunting for her roaming chicks.
The accompanying blocks are an excellent teaching tool for toddlers and older children as well. Use the small blocks for stacking play, for teaching children to recognize numerals one through nine, or for mixing to teach larger numbers. Have your child pick out the block whose number corresponds with each page, and be sure to keep the blocks on hand when reading other counting books.
Alice Cary counts with her son Will and reviews books in Groton, Massachusetts.
