Review by Michael Pellecchia
What makes an investment classic? Good information presentation plus idiomatic writing do it for me. Plus a taste of the unusual. All that is here from an expert in spin-offs, rights offerings, warrants and options, and other investments off the market's beaten path.
Greenblatt, founder of Gotham Capital, cut his teeth on Benjamin Graham's exhortations to ignore "Mr. Market" and also to buy with a sufficient "margin of safety" in the price. From that standard territory he moves into the "twilight zone" where the fewest investors are found chasing values that require a little digging for.
Because this book brings together an unusual set of ideas, is short and to the point, and benefits greatly from the author's style and personality, it has all the makings of an investment classic.
