Review by Ann Shayne
Bottom Line Personal is the largest newsletter in the world. More than two million people subscribe to it for its no-nonsense tidbits, which can range from the prosaic (keep your toothbrush in a glass of mouthwash to beat germs) to the profound (communicate the good things about your marriage). The brief articles mean that each slim issue has a boatload of well-edited, authoritative information.
So it's surprising to see a big fat book of Bottom Line wisdom, but not unwelcome. Bottom Line Personal Book of Bests: Inside Information from America's Leading Experts is a Bottom Line wallow, akin to reading a whole year's worth of issues. Beating arthritis, what credit-card companies won't tell you, communication lessons for parents, how to keep a poker game friendly -- all are covered in the firm Bottom Line way. You feel a little sheepish if you've violated one of their suggestions. (I like my grilled meat charred a little, even though they say it could contain cancer-causing chemicals.) But even Bottom Line Personal has its impractical side: its list of the most romantic videos is all heart.
