Review by Sukey Howard

Grin and bear it! William Kotzwinkle pokes a fun-filled -- and knowing -- finger at the foibles of the human race and in particular at the publishing/media industry in The Bear Went Over the Mountain, read by Michael Prichard. The bear, a.k.a. Hal Jam, doesn't go over the mountain to see what he can see, he does it to see what he can be, and what he can be is a best-selling author, compared in looks and style to Hemingway.

No one seems to be aware that he's a bear, that he's a tad inarticulate, a little slow to sign his name and that he washes down piles of pies with bottles of honey -- who cares when there's so much money to be made. A sad commentary on the "literary" world but one that will make you smile.
