Review by Ann Shayne
Augusta National is like no other golf course in America. Golfers who wish they could play at the notoriously exclusive club go all squirrely when the opportunity to play there arises -- a friend of a friend manages to wangle an invitation, and a golfer will go sort of limp with envy. The extraordinary tournament that takes place there each is year is equally awe-inspiring: the azaleas that mysteriously bloom despite the early time of year, the impossible waiting list for tickets, the green jacket that the Masters champion is given. Augusta may be in Georgia, but for golfers it is Valhalla.
This book will send tingles through any golfer. The history of the course is here, and the Masters tournament is covered well, with lots of photographs of the champions (so that's what Bobby Jones looked like), and wonderful photographs by Augusta's official photographer, Frank Christian. Except for a very lucky trip south, this book is as close as one may get to the famed cathedral of trees.
