Lasting fun: New novelties for kids

Play books

Review by Alice Cary

Eric Hill's Spot has long been top dog in our house, one of Will's oldest literary pals. Now Will is enjoying two Spot and Friends Sticker Board Books (Putnam, $7.95, ages 3-5), each containing 15 reusable stickers. Dress up the gang for a costume party in Dress Up (0399230319), or help them play with their toys in Play (0399230327). Books like these are great for car trips and quiet time.

Slightly older children will have fun with Grosset & Dunlap's two "Sticker Stories," each containing 75 reusable stickers: The Dolls' Tea Party ($4.95, 0448413094) and Way Out in Space ($4.95, 0448413086). I particularly like Nate Evan's zany illustrations for the space story.

Alice Cary loves to read and play at her home in Groton, Massachusetts.
