Review by Larry Woods

Author David Feintuch is a storyteller. In his four previous Seafort novels, Feintuch has entranced his readers with vivid imagination and intricate plotting. Now in Voices of Hope, young Philip Seafort returns to the dark streets of urban Armageddon to save a friend. Philip is your typical 12 year old, if you are used to mathematical and engineering genius, who lives in a world surrounded by computers and artificial intelligence. By virtue of his father's position as the former U.N. Secretary General, Philip lives in a government-protected compound as does his 15-year-old friend Jared.

Every night Philip, Jared, and their "e-friends" link up and access to analyze the ravages of war that have left destitute almost everyone outside the compound. Jared decides to run away from home to avoid his father and is soon lost in a dangerous world where Philip decides that only he can rescue him. Their physical and emotional journey to safety through an apocalyptic world is brilliantly described.

Larry D. Woods, an attorney, is an avid collector of science fiction.
