Review by Larry Woods

For over 40 years James White has written hard science fiction in an entertaining fashion, using basic decency, believable characters, and quiet humor. His Sector General series began with his novel Hospital Station in 1962, and The Galactic Gourmet is the ninth book in the Sector General series which focuses on medical science of the future.

Gurronsevas is an imposing six-legged alien of great decorum who is recognized as the greatest chef in all of the galactic federation. At the height of his honors and reputation, Gurronsevas decides to accept the greatest challenge of his career: to take over and supervise preparation of hospital food for Sector General. When a hunting expedition turns into a disaster for the last-born offspring of the leader, Gurronsevas confronts a crisis during the return journey worthy of the texture and ethos of the Sector General stories.

Larry D. Woods, an attorney, is an avid collector of science fiction.
