Unlike ghost stories from North America these tales from Japan do not seek to frighten so much as they seek to move the listener to a dimension beyond everyday experience. These "mysterious tales" point us toward the mystery that lies at the heart of life, or as Martin puts it, "The tales of Japan carry with them a special awareness of the fleeting yet haunting beauty we know from life."
A word of warning: once you enter the enchanted garden of these folktales you may never want to return home.
