An Excerpt Written by Laura in the First Book of the Series:

The idea for this series sprang from the success of the Teach Yourself Web Publishing with HTML books and from my philosophy that books about technical subjects do not have to be boring and difficult to read -- or worse, dumbed down to the point of inanity. When I read technical books (and, being the nerd that I am, I read a lot of them), I prefer the books that treat me like a human being who wants to learn something. I prefer the books with a very straightforward, practical, hands-on approach, with lots and lots of useful examples, friendly, conversational writing, and a good sense of humor.

That's what this series is all about -- books with clear writing, lots and lots of hands-on, practical examples, books that are fun to read while still being educational. Books that make you interested in the topic and make you want to do more with it. And, since this is the Web Workshop, the series will cover all aspects of the World Wide Web, from the tools such as HTML editors and site-building tools to Web page design ideas and techniques to advanced server administration, and on and on.
