Review by Sukey Howard

Molly Cates isn't a sleuth as such, but her work as a writer about true crime can get her into some serious trouble. That seems unlikely now as she starts writing her final article on Louis Bronk, a.k.a. "The Texas Scalper," who is on death row and due to be executed in only a few days. The Red Scream by Mary Willis Walker takes Molly through those few days and into a new set of nightmarish murders that have Louis's ghastly signature, but had to have been done by someone else. And that someone thinks Molly may know too much. The story is set in Austin, and performer Judith Ivey does a fine job with those languid Texan vowels.
