Review by Larry Woods
What can you say about Harlan Ellison? That at an early age he was an angry young man? That he has always been and still is the enfant terrible of the science fiction world? The leading exponent of gonzo writing? He has definitely written some of our finest science fiction in both short stories and essays. About half of this collection of essays, letters, and notes was published 25 years ago in paperback form, while the other half is brand new -- the remainder being the usual riveting, inscrutable Ellison story. His stories and writings are near impossible to summarize or review. You don't read Ellison; you experience him, so my recommendation is to absorb or swallow this material in a wild fit of abandon and hope that you survive Ellison's musings, vitriol, intellect, and emotion. There's none better to be found. Oh -- I almost forgot -- the dust jacket blurb demands your attention. Every word of it is true in some universe.
Larry D. Woods, an attorney, is an avid reader of science fiction.
