This Is the Way We Eat Our Lunch by Edith Baer is a picture book introduction to many different foods eaten around the world and in the several regions of the United States. Each two-page spread introduces young children from an area and the foods they typically eat. Fast foods are not included since the emphasis is on traditional dishes of each area. A map of the world -- something not often found in cookbooks -- is at the back, so each child mentioned in the text can be located on the map. Several easy recipes are given for each area, and an index of terms helps with unfamiliar words. The illustrations are appealing and complement the story line.
