Review by Barbara Franklin
With new Disney movies coming so often, readers might expect cookbooks such as Quasimodo stew, Pocahontas pumpkin seeds, or Dalmatian chocolate bars, but at least for the present, Disney's Family Cookbook by Deanna F. Cook is truly a family cookbook. Clear instructions and beautiful color pictures make it a top choice for all ages, and the spiral lay-flat binding and the glossy paper are kitchen friendly. Children will need adult supervision, but the fun facts and pictures of smiling kids encourage them to try the recipes. Other appealing features for kids are recipes for craft materials, even scented play doughs. Every kitchen needs a general cookbook and this one fits the niche well -- it covers a good variety of foods, simple preparation techniques, and basic serving ideas. The contemporary appearance and the Disney name make it a classic cookbook for our times.
Barbara Franklin is a children's specialist librarian and a good cook from Nashville, Tennessee.
