Horse owners of all ages probably will be confronted with horse colic at some point. Jessie Haas's Be Well, Beware is the story of young Lily's efforts, as well as those of her grandparents and attentive veterinarians, to pull her mare through this difficult ailment. The book includes a very graphic description of colic, and there is some doubt about the age of intended readers, but the experience leaves Lily with great satisfaction and a different view of life.
