A Pony Promise by Lois Szymanski gives merit to the thesis that horses teach valuable lessons to girls with serious problems. Tiffany Clark's brother has told her she had been given up for adoption by her birth mother. Her reactions, typical for the situation, are carefully detailed, and consoling her seems impossible. But living next door to a pony farm proves to be the path to acceptance of her place in life. Windy, Tiffany's favorite mare, foaled shortly after another dam who refused to care for her offspring. When Windy nurses the orphan pony as if it were her own, Tiffany discovers a sense of belonging in the animal kingdom that is heartwarming for readers.
Polly Murphy is a stable manager and riding instructor for a private school in Nashville, Tennessee.
