Review by Sukey Howard
If a well-crafted British whodunit is on your summer listening wish list, The Dark Room by Minette Walters, read in its entirety by Laural Merlington, is for you. Ten years ago her husband was bludgeoned to death, ten days ago her fiance and her best friend were murdered in the same way. But Jinx, lying in a clinic with a concussion, can't remember the last ten days, and can't remember the alleged suicide attempt that caused her own injury either. Is her amnesia real -- is Jinx covering up for herself or someone close to her? Slowly, the lost fragments of the past and present emerge, but the "who" of this riveting "dunit" eluded me to very end.
Sukey Howard reports on spoken word audio each month. Don't miss her appearances on CNN, where she is their regular audio reviewer. Catch Sukey on Sunday, July 21 on the morning show, 8:30 a.m. EST.
