Sukey's favorite of the month

Review by Sukey Howard

I've said it before, and I hope that I'll have occasion to say it again, writer James Lee Burke and reader Will Patton are an unbeatable audio combo. Heaven's Prisoners, an early Dave Robicheaux mystery, is one of the best I've heard or read. Living on the bayou, no longer a New Orleans police detective, successfully fighting his way out of an alcoholic hell, Dave witnesses a plane crash and inadvertently finds himself in another hell, caught in the maelstrom of a local drug dealer's brutal, conscienceless violence. But this crash also brings Alafer, a six-year-old Salvadorian orphan, into his life.

Sukey Howard reports on spoken word audio each month. Don't miss her appearances on CNN, where she is their regular audio reviewer. Catch Sukey on Sunday, July 21 on the morning show, 8:30 a.m. EST.
