Review by Sukey Howard
Floaters, Joseph Wambaugh's latest crime and cop caper, mixes a little murder, an America's Cup conspiracy, and the hunt for a killer pimp with a few laughs, some great scenes, and a fabulous cast of characters. There's Blaze Duvall, a stunning redhead massage artist who departs from her usual trade to engage in a bit of sailboat sabotage; Ambrose Lutterworth, a wilting WASP whose passionate dedication to being the "Keeper of the Cup" leads him to dire deeds; a small, slimy, grimy American crane operator; a gargantuan crane operator from New Zealand; a garlic-reeking vice cop with a computerized memory; a couple of rather appealing cops working the Harbor Unit; and a female detective who has been married too many times and may just do it again. Throw in swarms of sailors, "sailing stupids," and "cuppies," and you've got great summer entertainment.
