Mayor Ed Koch, the Big Apple's newest detective, is back. The fictional hero of Murder at City Hall returns once again to preside over his fair city as he goes front and center for the deadliest outing of his illustrious career...

It's Broadway's biggest night. No, it isn't the Tony's, it's the 10-year anniversary of The Last Laugh, the Great White Way's longest-running musical extravaganza. Mega-hit producer Nolan MacDougall has planned a gala event, inviting everyone who's anyone in New York, along with several Hollywood superstars. The best seat in the house is still reserved for the show's number one fan: none other than Hizzoner himself. And from where Ed Koch is sitting, he can tell this is going to be one performance he'll never forget...

The curtain goes up on Conor Matthews, usually the most dependable ham in town. But tonight something is wrong. The legendary trouper misses cues and trips over his lines. At least the climax comes off without a hitch: the crackle of gunfire makes the audience jump; the play's death scene has never been more believable; and the blood has never looked more real. Nor have the surprised faces of the rest of the cast. Talk about upstaging! In one night, cold-blooded murder has turned The Last Laugh into the hottest ticket on town. And, as Ed Koch soon discovers, when it comes to suspects, it's standing room only.

It could be curatins for an all-star cast that includes: Conor's co-star and less-than-faithful lover; an understudy who'll undermine anyone for a decent part; an aging diva who can still chew the scenery -- and hold a grudge -- with the best of them; and a Hollywood has-been who has come crawling back to Broadway for one final shot at fame. From 42nd street to Gracie mansion, from backstage backstabbing to Times Square intrigues, you can leave it to mayor/sleuth Ed Koch to follow the clues scene-by-scene as he scrambles to stop a killer from making an encore, and still get to Sardie's in time for the reviews.

From first act to final curatin, Murder on Broadway is the best show in town. And Ed Koch deserves kudos for coming up with a mystery as dazzingly inventive as it is irresistably appealing. In this clever and hilarious new series, Edward I. Koch and Wendy Corsi Staub have all the makings of a long-running hit.
