Olympic themes spark young readers' dreams
Review by Dee Ann Grand
Middle grade fiction lovers will find inspiration and lessons on winning in the American Gold Swimmers series. The first two of the series, The Winning Stroke and The Human Shark, tell of the brother and sister swimming duo Kristy and Kirk Adams, who compete while undergoing lessons on staying focused. The author, Sharon Dennis Wyeth, smoothly weaves in plots of young teens' contemporary problems and springboards kids into realizing that Olympic champions are not superhumans; they're just regular people who choose a goal, believe in themselves, and have some fun along the way.
