Perhaps the best recently released science fiction is Jack McDevitt's Ancient Shores where Tom Lasker digs up a triangle that looks like a shark fin in a field outside Ft. Moxie, North Dakota only to discover it is a sailboat made of unearthly material and is ten thousand years old. From this beginning McDevitt creates a doorway to another world or another dimension of strange and wondrous perceptions.
