Sauntering Into Spring
Review by Sukey Howard
A kinder, gentler Judith Krantz? Well, I think so-there's no lack of glitz and glamour, but I like almost all the characters and love what they wear. I can't really remember liking the Scruples or the Dazzle crowd quite so much. Her latest, a runaway runway bestseller, Spring Collection, is set in Paris (where else?) and revolves around the debut show of an Italian designer, a brilliantly talented abusive brute (didn't like this one). Krantz's other characters-the gorgeous ex-model who runs her own New York modeling agency; the Swiss billionaire father she's never met; her Brooklyn-born, feisty best friend and second-in-command; her three top models who are brought to Paris to strut the brute's stuff; and all the people they fall in love with-make for a fabulous foray into fashion and passion, with alternative couplings allowed. This is a good story-telling day for Krantz, as good as any of her models' best hair days, and for Kate Burton, it's a top-notch performing day.
