A longtime favorite with young readers is Syd Hoff's Danny and the Dinosaur, now available in a newly illustrated edition with Book Buddies, small plastic figures of both Danny and his pal dinosaur. You've got to love a prehistoric creature who announces in the middle of the day of fun: "It's good to take an hour or two off after a hundred million years."
There's also yet another new adventure, Happy Birthday, Danny and the Dinosaur!, this one a hardcover with no plastic toys. My favorite line from the new title comes from the dinosaur: "Today I'm a hundred million years and one day old." Who says dinosaurs can't count? These books are good choices for both preschoolers and beginning readers.
